Temporary Technical Committees

Whenever necessary LIFE Institute creates a Temporary Technical Committee (TTC) to help resolve any specific issues related to the methodology within LIFE Certification management system. The outcomes derived from the TTC are submitted to the Permanent Technical Committee for discussion and evaluation and, after that, to public consultation.

Once again, the results from the public consultation are submitted to the Permanent Technical Committee that will issue a recommendation for LIFE Institute’s Board of Directors appreciation and approval.

In 2012 four Temporary Technical Committees were created:

Energy Temporary Technical Committee

The Energy Temporary Technical Committee kicked off in October 2012 and has been developing a research and analysis of the main impacts to biodiversity derived from different energy sources. The main objective is to provide details as well as refine the impact analysis concerning the energy issue and its complementation.

BII Critical Analysis Temporary Committee

The Committee was created with the main purpose of detailing the Biodiversity Impact Index” – index defined by LIFE Certification Methodology and based onto five environmental aspects, namely: water, energy, greenhouse gases, residue and area occupied.

Legal Aspects Temporary Technical Committee

During the pilot testing phase carried out in businesses it was possible to identify the need to get detailing on some of the aspects related to legal compliance and the limitations when analyzing conservation actions that go beyond legal requirements (voluntary).

Conservation Temporary Technical Committee

The Conservation Temporary Technical Committee was created to narrow the LIFE Certification applications to obtain concrete results on biodiversity conservation. This Committee’s work has as reference the Technical Guide 02 of LIFE’s Methodology. It aims to improve LIFE’s biodiversity importance Matrix; and also it aims to select and validate, with conservation specialists, biological and ecological indicators that present effective results of the actions made by the companies. Finally, it aims the improvement of the Evidence and Content Verification Guide related to the validation of the conservation actions on the companies’ auditions.

Specialists on biological conservation and ecology from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Federal University of Goias, Federal University of Parana and Unicamp compose this Committee.
